Student Centered Decisions

Parents trust us with their children. It should be clear in the way the board operates that students are first. The school board works collaboratively to set policy and support practice. I will continue to lead through a student-centered decision making lens. It is our responsibility to make sure that we treat students as their parents would treat them. All children should be treated as unique with special gifts to offer the Round Rock community as further citizens

Racial & Educational Equity

I will continue to hold systems accountable, working collaboratively with fellow board members. Equity means that every student has what they need to reach their fullest potential. Special education services, institutional racism and dyslexia support are concerns that rise to the level of the board consistently. Students who perform well academically also deserve to access enrichment that challenges them. Board members can and should be responsible to the community through accountability requirements set forth for the superintendent.

Transparency

Trustees are tasked with tough decisions about:

  1. Student Safety

  2. Limited Fiscal Resources

  3. Policy

A lack of transparency is harmful to the development of a student-centered school environment. I believe it is important that our community knows and understands who has the authority to make decisions in Round Rock ISD. Public schools are responsible to the public, board members must be good stewards of public tax dollars and focus on success for all students. With my fellow trustees, it is important to center a realistic view even when decisions are made with a sense of urgency. I believe we can use transparency to proactively center voices often erased as we make these difficult decisions.

Budget Priorities

Budgets are moral documents. As the board makes decisions about tax rates, I will continue to be a good steward of community tax dollars. I will prioritize an equity-centered review of the current budget with a focus on meeting the needs of students in Round Rock ISD. My budgetary priorities have been and will continue to be focused on meeting the needs of students in Round Rock ISD. As a member of the board, we can seize economic opportunity while being good stewards of our planet through the  adoption of large-scale sustainability initiatives. It is vital that our financial decisions align with the district’s priorities of Including All, Investing in Growth and Inspiring Action.

Educator Support

With nearly a decade of experience as a classroom educator, I am skilled at creating supportive and liberating cultures for my fellow educators. Educators and staff in a World Class District deserve World Class Support. This means educators and staff are well-compensated and have outstanding health insurance. As part of a collaborative vision with my fellow board members, we will hold the Superintendent accountable for cultivating a work environment that is physically and emotionally safe. We must continue to look to educators as experts in their fields and protect and honor their time to teach and plan.

Community Engagement

My desire is to engage all stakeholders, including but not limited to, students, parents, teachers, tax payers, community and industry, to encourage open dialogue and engagement on decisions that will impact them. As a board member, I have strived for unity and shared goals that focus on education excellence for all members of Round Rock ISD.
